The three winning households of the city of Winona residential rain garden cost sharing grants are Fran Goodin, Bruno Borsari and Julie Chiasson, and Lisa Ramsey and Glen Dornfeld. Rain gardens are a simple and cost effective way to keep storm water on site and allow it to percolate into the soil and recharge local groundwater. Winners will install their gardens this growing season and will display signs indicating that they are part of the Rain Gardens Winona Program. Since not all money was disbursed remaining funds will be reserved for next year’s program. It’s anticipated that the 2016 program will have an earlier start and build from this year’s program momentum.
