Students from Riverway School help paint a storm drain at the 2016 Winona Earth Day event. The students will be painting drains near their school in upcoming weeks to raise awareness of the need to protect our water quality.
Winona's Earth Day Celebration will be this coming Saturday April 23rd at the East End Rec Center and Healthy Lake Winona will be there. A Rain Garden Grant Writing Workshop will be held from 10am to noon. Winona residents - stop by during that time and get help filling out a grant application to put a rain garden in your yard. 5 grants for up to $250 will be given away in 2016. Why not put a beautiful garden in your yard that purifies water and helps pollinators! At 1pm learn about the 'Adopt-a-storm drain' initiative. Borrow the kit and help us mark all the storm drains in the city of Winona to increase awareness about the importance of keeping debris and pollutants out of the storm sewers. Anything that is flushed or runs down a storm drain is not “treated” before it reaches a lake, stream, or river. |
